Microsoft Holds Firm _Against_ ODF

Despite the recent approval of the Open Document Format for Office Applications (ODF) by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), Microsoft Corp. remains stalwart in its decision to forego support of ODF in its Office productivity suite, a company executive said this week.

Rather than support ODF, Microsoft is instead focusing on making XML the default file format for Office 2007, the next version of the suite that is due out later this year, said Chris Capossela, corporate vice president of Office marketing for Microsoft.
