Next U.S. GPS Satellite Readied for Launch

Via UPI.

The fifth satellite in the U.S. Air Force's new GPS constellation has been completed and is being readied for launch in the fall.

The spacecraft designated GPS IIR-15(M) is one of eight that will provide the Air Force with advanced GPS (Global Positioning System) capabilities and is slated for launch Sept. 14 from Cape Canaveral.

While the satellite is the fifth in the series, the September launch will be only the second of the program. The birds are delivered into storage and launched when requested by the military, Lockheed said.
