e-Commerce: Security, Privacy Concerns Must be Overcome

Here's a safe bet: Most consumers won't embrace futuristic forms of electronic commerce until they're convinced they're safe.

That means finding comforting answers to vexing questions such as: Will crooks find high-tech ways to clean me out? What's it going to cost me if something goes awry? And what's the cost of all this cool convenience -- my privacy?

Fears abound that criminals will devise ways to copy account information from lost or stolen phones -- or even by walking near them with high-tech surveillance devices. Various efforts are under way to deter crooks, including using PINs, text-messaged alerts and transaction confirmations sent to phones that can be unlocked only with your fingerprint.
