CEO Of Livermore Tech Startup Under Indictment

Via CBS5.com.

The chief executive of a Livermore technology startup who allegedly lied to investors, kept no records and purchased luxury goods with company funds was indicted by a federal grand jury in Oakland Monday.

Mail fraud and tax evasion charges were pending for Orinda resident John Frances Griffin, 43, who was arrested May 11, according to a report from U.S. Attorney Kevin Ryan.

Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Internal Revenue Service acted after probing Griffin’s activities as chief executive of VaporTech, a Livermore firm researching technology to convert fuel into high-quality, superheated water vapor.

The indictment alleges that Griffin kept no records, exchanged his salary checks for cash and withheld his social security number, all for purposes of hiding income taxes.
